Somewhere across the rolling hills of the emerald isle lies the mystery of Leprechauns. Now for those of you who grew up in a grocery sack, the Leprechauns inhabited Ireland long before the ancient Celts arrived. These wee lads are smartly dressed & small enough to sit on an average man’s shoulder. They’re mischievous, clever little guys prone to harmless pranks. Each one has his own pot of gold that always needs protection, so besides their wits, Leprechauns have magical powers to appear and disappear when they want as well as grant wishes to those who manage to corner them.
What does all this have to do with Daddy O’Brien’s Irish Ice Cream Pub and Eatery? Nothing yet. But, be patient and we’ll tell the tale.
What many people don’t know about Leprechauns is that they’re talented musicians, they love to sing and dance and are talented shoemakers by trade. Shoemakers? Well, they REALLY like to dance.
All this brings us to DaddyO. As a wee tot, he was dragged kicking and screaming to work in the shoe store. It didn’t take long before he was sick of the smell shoeshine and sweaty feet. He tripped one day and spilled a little magic dust on himself and his ice cream the results of which led to some pretty amazing gourmet ice cream along with a growth spurt. DaddyO grew to six feet tall and his ice cream grew to be legendary.
Some flavors were infused with alcohol which made his family even happier than they already were. Since he could no longer fit through the door of the shoe shop, they fired him and made him in charge of all the meals. There, hunched over a mixing bowl with a big wooden spoon and a headlamp on, DaddyO can still be found today mixing up his favorite alcohol, ice cream and magic.
We all want the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, but if that becomes too elusive for you, come to Daddy O’Brien’s Irish Ice Cream Pub and Eatery for a fine meal, some Irish good times and some "Cold Gold", gourmet ice cream that will melt the stress of your day away.
DaddyO and MommyO are high school sweethearts who live, work and dream together. Their current dream is to make Atlanta & the rest of the world a better place through great food, a wonderful atmosphere and gourmet and alcohol infused ice cream. Really now, what more could a person want?
Even before opening their first store, Daddy O'Brien's has won multiple awards. In 2014 DaddyO and his team created Kentucky Salted Caramel at the National Ice Cream Association's Iron Scoop Competition and WON.
